What are Special Lessons?

While Power Homeschool offers an online education experience for students, we’ve also created Special Lessons for Courses. The Special Lessons provide hands-on learning opportunities to enrich each student’s learning experience.  Parent resources are provided with the onsite lessons, including: student handouts, lesson instructions, answer keys, and grading rubrics.

Special lessons are optional hands on Material that can be completed for Power Homeschool Users. Not every course offers special lessons.

These Special lessons can be found on the student interface or parent account. They can also be viewed under the syllabus tab.

Parents have the ability to grade the special lessons, but there is not a way to add a grade into the Parent Interface to keep track of their work.

Is there a way to either mark special lessons complete or remove them in Power Homeschool? Thank you!

Once a student turns in a Special Lesson, it will be marked Green and will no longer be included in the Special Lessons notification count.

Some will be graded by the system.  These are "Writing Tutor" lessons.  The only way to remove the notifications for "Writing Tutor" lessons, would be to complete the assignment requirements.  Once the course is completed and archived, the Special Lesson notifications will no longer be included in the total count.

Since the Special Lessons in Power Homeschool are optional, grades given by the Writing Tutor will not affect the class grade in any way.

To remove regular Special Lessons from the 'To Do' count for your student, please follow these instructions:

  1. Log in as the Student
  2. Click on the 'Special Lessons' tab
  3. Select the Special Lesson you want to have removed.
  4. Click on the blue "Add Work" button and then click "Create a Text File".
  5. Type something in the text box and then click the green "Turn In" button.
  6. Confirm you want to turn in the assignment.
  7. That Lesson will now be marked Green and will no longer be included in the Special Lessons count.

My child submitted work via upload for special lesson #13 in the middle school Physical Science course. I noticed in other Forum posts that Power Homeschool does not grade special lessons, but the syllabus listing in my Acellus App is showing a green completion circle and a 0% grade for that lesson. Is that grade affecting his course average, or are the grade data points for Special Lessons not included in the automatic calculations? Thanks!

Special Lessons in Power Homeschool are offered as optional, extra resources.   "Writing Tutor" lessons will be graded by the system.  The rest are not graded and will show 0%.  None of these grades will be factored into the class grade.

You did not answer if it was possible to remove completed Special Lessons.

To be more specific: Can special lessons be removed from the list that are either completed and or that we decide to skip?

Thank You

Once a student turns in a Special Lesson, it will be marked Green and will no longer be included in the Special Lessons notification count.   There is not a way to delete Special Lessons that you want to skip, but you can reduce the number on the notification count. (see thread above for how you can mark Special Lessons as complete.)
