How do I know which courses my student needs to graduate?
01 September 2021, 12:56
To know which courses your student needs in order to graduate, you must first consider what education path your student wishes to choose. These guidelines can change based on the graduation path you pursue, credits received from previous high schools, and plans concerning goals after high school. This post will help outline what courses you will need, as well what steps you need to take in order to graduate from Acellus Academy.
Choosing an Education Pathway
When beginning to plan for high school graduation, Acellus Academy students will need to decide on a Graduation Pathway. Two pathways are available to students who are full-time with Acellus Academy.
- The Standard High School Diploma Pathway is intended for students who plan on meeting minimum high school requirements in order to attend a community college or quickly find a career. With this pathway, students must earn a minimum of 24 credits in order to graduate. Parents who select this pathway should take time to become familiar with the credit requirements in each subject for the Standard Pathway. Information is available at the following link: LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS PATHWAY
- For high school students who are looking to apply to a competitive, 4-year university, the High School Graduation with Honors Pathway is recommended. This pathway requires more challenging courses and students must earn 26 credits in order to graduate. A minimum GPA of 3.0 is also required for a student to graduate with an honors diploma. Parents who select this pathway should take time to become familiar with the credit requirements in each subject for the Honors Pathway. Information is available at the following link: LEARN MORE ABOUT THIS PATHWAY
Additionally, students of Acellus Academy must be enrolled and active for a minimum of 12 months to graduate. A minimum of 6 credits must be earned through Acellus Academy, including 1 credit within each subject area (mathematics, science, language arts, and social studies) as well as 2 elective credits. To be eligible to graduate, students must also be 16 years of age and have met all outstanding financial obligations through Acellus Academy.
More information regarding the graduation requirements, as well as the credit requirements for each subject, can be found here: Graduation Requirements | Acellus Academy
Importing Credits from Other High Schools
If your student has attended a high school previous to Acellus Academy, it is important to address whether or not their currently completed credits are transferable to Acellus Academy. Students may transfer credits when specific requirements are met. There is also a transfer credit fee of $15/credit that is due when the student applies for graduation.
An official transcript from your student’s previous high school(s) will be necessary in order to import credits to Acellus Academy. Parents are responsible to obtain these transcripts, which may be accomplished by contacting each high school your student has previously attended.
Credits earned at another high school will be transferable to Acellus Academy when the following conditions are met.
- The course credit is listed on the transcript of an accredited high school
- The course has a grade of C- or above (70% or greater if a numerical grade is assigned).
Creating a High School Education Plan
After enrolling a high school student in Acellus Academy, parents should sign into their account to create a High School Education Plan. Creating an Education Plan helps parents to determine which courses need to be taken in order to fulfill the graduation requirements for the pathway chosen.
- While creating an Education Plan, parents will input the credits they wish to transfer and upload the transcripts from their students’ previous high school(s).
- The transfer credits will be combined with a list of recommended Acellus Academy courses to fulfill each of the credit requirements for graduation.
- Parents may customize the selection of courses to suit their student’s personal and career interests.
- The completed Education Plan will include a plan of study that lists each course the student will need to take in order to graduate from Acellus Academy.
