Pennsylvania Homeschool Requirements
11 November 2021, 13:22
It is important for parents who choose to homeschool to research and understand the applicable requirements for their region. In Pennsylvania, Acellus Academy is categorized as an "umbrella school."
Pennsylvania's Home School Law Regarding Umbrella Schools
An "umbrella school" is any alternative source of education that provides curriculum and oversight of homeschooled students to fulfill the requirements of state government. These entities are not registered with the PA Department of Education (PDE) and do not lead to a state-recognized diploma. In Pennsylvania, an umbrella school includes any educational entity that is neither a public school nor a "brick-and-mortar" private school. Umbrella schools include such entities as correspondence courses, private cyber schools, or any type of private provider of virtual or remote education. If a parent chooses an online program that provides grades, evaluations, etc., the parent is still responsible for providing the local school district with a notarized affidavit or unsworn declaration statement and a written evaluation of the home education program completed by a qualified home school evaluator annually.
