Retake Lessons Problem

I was under the impression that the lessons were able to be taken again to improve their grades regardless of the number of attempts. However, my son cannot and when he hovers over the icon shown in the tutorial, it only shows problem, when that is pressed nothing happens. What can I do to fix that?
